That's Nigel Sears. Up until about two weeks ago he was head coach of women's tennis at the LTA. Prior to that he had coached Dani to a Top 5 ranking. Now he's Ana's new coach. Yup, kid batted her eyelashes and hired Nigel away from the LTA. My guess is that he was kinda ok leaving anyway, but there is much to be said about being the guy who helps Ana rediscover her form. I would love to hear the names of the other folks who threw their hats into the ring for the gig.
Oh, did I mention that Nigel is Kim's dad? Yeah, here's hoping part of the contract requires Kim to take Ana on some London shopping sprees and teach her that she can in fact wear her hair in non-Pocahontasy styles. That alone would be worth his salary.
We'll see how it goes. He seems fairly well-respected as a tennis coach. But he also seems a bit dick. He's been known to be quite demanding and blunt with both players and press, two things that, if handled poorly, aren't entiiiiiiirely valued in the Ivanovic camp. He publicly criticised Dani's attitude in 2003 and he's been known to not exactly mince words when it came to discussing player fitness. So...fingers crossed that he doesn't leave Ana in a sobbing heap. At least not consistently.
In addition to bringing on Nigel, Scott "Check Out My Mandals" Byrnes will be rejoining the team. I love this move. Ana was the perfect level of fitness under Scott (2007/2008) and he probably knows her body better than anyone else.
And no that was not meant to be dirty in any way, shape, or form.
Anywho, welcome to hell, Nigel and Byrnesy. Let's turn this boat around, shall we?
