It was Doubles Day here at the BNP Paribas Open as the tournament has been blessed with a doubles field that might as well double (seewhatIdidthere) for an Olympics preview. Fed/Stan, Rafa/Marc, Nole/Viktor, and Andy/Jamie were all in action and, thankfully, all victorious. In fact, Fed/Stan took out #2 seeds Nestor/Mirnyi 1 and 2. No word on whether there was a weird voodoo celebration afterwards but I'm sure there was.
Knowing that I couldn't bear the searing heat for too long today, I decided to focus on the Murray Brothers. Shocker, I know.
The fuzzy-haired Scots took on the Brazilians (Melo Yellow and Soares) in a highly entertaining affair that came down to a super-tiebreak. While Andy seemed to carry the team in the first set (which they won) it was Jamie that really came through in the tiebreak, picking up not only his level but the team's energy. After one particularly amazing rally that saw Jamie cover the court like a cat and show impeccable touch, Team Murray was fired up and started bouncing around the court as though they were, like, an actual doubles team.
It was so cute.
Judy's Spawn would take the match 75 36 10-6.
And then Andy tweeted Nole about it. Because he just has to tell him everything.
Oh, and memo to Judy: Your boys need haircuts. For realzies.
