The second week of a Slam is where the big boys and girls make their money. So here we go.
Rod Laver Arena: 11am
- Nails vs. Petkovic - Nails seems absolutely unstoppable. But the thing is, Petko loves to dance. Am I crazy to call the Petko upset?
- Stan vs. Fed - I refuse to root for either player here, but you know the universe is tempted to fuck me by having Stan take out Fed. Is that a result I can be happy about? I genuinely and honestly don't know.
- Caro vs. Fran - There's been lots of talk about how weird the scheduling has been. I mean, couldn't they have put this match on second on Laver to (a) give the #1 her first primetime slot of the tournament and (b) give Fran the maximum time for recovery? But I've heard that in the second week the organizers only schedule one singles match at night in order to avoid super-late nights. So...I guess I can't argue with putting Nole vs. Tomas on at night. But even then, a bit surprising not to give Fed the stage, no? Entirely possible he requested the early match, though.
- Nole vs. Tomas (NB 7pm) - STRESS. But I say Nole in 3. Yeah, you heard me. THIS BITCH AIN'T ON HISENSE.
Oh, and don't forget that after Nole and Tomas duke it out, Rod Laver Arena will be transformed to a gladiatorial coliseum, and Huber/Petrova will be unleashed on Black/Rodionova. Remember that scene in Gladiator where Joaquin gets all carnal and licks his lips in pleasure as everyone and their tiger try and kill Maximus?
