Muzz and Bepa aren't favorites here in Melbourne and without that burden they seem to be rolling comfortably along. Other than her tricky match against Bojangles, Bepa has looked solid. Despite my concerns that she's carrying a bit more weight in Australia, she seems to be moving well and playing smart, tactical tennis. After dropping an early break against Iveta today, she fought back and cruised to a 64 61 victory, booking her place into the quarterfinals. She'll face a tough test against Petra in the next round. Better stretch those legs out, Bepa, cuz you gon' be runnin'.
Then there's Andy, who, just like Vera, came into the tournament with a few question marks, namely, where was his form and would he be able to avoid another quizzical early round exit. He's passed that test and then some, playing some of the finest tennis of the tournament. He's averaging over two breaks per set, hasn't dropped a set, and hasn't spent more than two hours on court for any match. He put an exclamation point on his first week with an absolute dismantling of Hand Lotion this afternoon, playing the brand of Andy Murray tennis that leaves opponents in absolute screaming, racquet throwing rage.
It was dope.
He even gave a totally adorkable on-court interview afterwards. When asked why Judy wasn't in his box during his previous match, "My brother was playing doubles at the same time and obviously I'm not the favourite son." Hee.
Don't worry, Andy. You're my favourite so-- wait...does that work?
