Sadly, my camera just doesn't do that kit justice. The pleats and collar were a shimmery hot pink lycra that looked like tassles or cones when she walked.
Anyway, the punk costume didn't work. Rezza lost to the always-on-the-verge-of-killing-someone Barbara Zahlavova Strychova, 60 36 75. There was allez-ing, there was racquet tossing, there were pained cries to the heavens. And it all ended on a ridiculous two-handed backhand drop shot from BZS that seemed to drift in the wind for days before it landed, to the stunned-silence of the crowd, a foot past the net. Ridiculous.
So the ladies side, while generally straight-forward, loses two seeds after day one: Rezza and Dani, who lost in a 3 hour and 38 minut battle with Kulikova. Really rough loss for Dani. She didn't really play poorly. But I think we all know her glory days are well behind her.
