Looking at these matchups there's a definite potential for an insane third round. It kicks off tomorrow with a number of must see matches.
Caro vs. Cibulkova: A rematch of their first rounder in Sydney, where Domi dominated. Expect a Caro win in straights. She should be, and will be, out for revenge. Dress notwithstanding, she's looked good this week.
Justine vs. Kuz: Justine's been solid through the week and I honestly don't think Kuz will take her down. For no other reason than she's Kuz. But this one should feature some great hitting from two vets.
Stan vs. Gael: I am sure this will be a good tennis match. I, however, will be eating dinner off-site instead. You couldn't pay me enough.
Venus vs. Petko: The old lady is ripe for the pickin'. But Petko wasn't hitting the ball all that well against Anne and less we forget, she's Serbian. I wouldn't put it past her to nutcase her way out of the tournament. But I would love to see her piss everyone off by doing the Petko dance if she wins. Because heaven forbid she should do it in front of Venus. [/sarcasm]
Viktor vs. Novak: As long as one of them walks out alive, we're good. But get it, Nole.
Masha vs. Goerges: Goerges is on a relative tear in the last four months and is a dangerous hitter. Meanwhile every match is a rollercoaster for Masha and her shoulder. Should be a battle on Hisense.
Kei vs. Fernando: This could be interesting. If Fernando is on he should have no problem with Kei. But the Asians have had an inspired run here so far in Melbourne.
Big Berd vs. Gasquet: Seems like a highlight match from two years ago. But you never know what Ricky is going to bring these days. I'll tap Tomas but be keeping an eye out for the score.
I have a gut feeling we won't see upsets tomorrow (I know, I just totally contradicted my own post). Then again, I could just be hungry and confusing my tummy sensations. It happens.
