A crazy intense match in Toronto saw Fed come back from 2-5 in the third to eek out a tiebreak win over an arguably gimpy Tomas, who had to take an MTO and get his thigh taped. But really, he was moving ok, I thought.
Poor Tomas had to fight not only himself (because, you know, he's Tomas) but also the dumb Toronto crowd who just couldn't seem to shut up when he was serving or even mid-point. Trying to serve for the match, he had to deal with shouts between serve, cheers for faults, and mid-point "out" calls. He was clearly annoyed, pleaded to Lars Graff to do something, but to no avail. Once Fed got that break back I think we all knew what was going happen. Tomas did well to bounce back and hold his serve to force the tiebreak, but from there, Fed had new life and was able to battle it out.
Regardless, it was a telling match for both guys. Tomas was back up his Wimbledon performance with an "I'm for real" tennis statement, and Roger gutted out the win but hit enough shambolic groundies at key moments to show that he's still vulnerable.
And so we have the top 4 into the semis. It'll be Rafa vs. Andy and Fed vs. Nole. I think we all know where my vaginal rooting interests lie. And it's not with Pootie Pink up there.
