Flavia vs. MaKiri was a badass match. There was high quality hitting and some really entertaining rallies. But in the end it was all about grit.
Both players were players were playing well and I remarked to Victoria, when MaKiri was up 4-0 in the second, that I never understood why she was ranked so low. There's no reason she shouldn't be top 15.
And then all hell broke loose and Flavia somehow rallied back to take the match in a tiebreak. We sat courtside for the whole thing and it's funny how hard it is to track a match when you're sitting so close. I honestly have no idea what changed or how Flavia got back into it other than to say that Maria started missing more. Which...isn't really cutting edge analysis.
Um...but she's pretty. Does that count?
And Flavia is badass. But I could have told you that regardless of my vantage point.
Sam was up top scouting the match. I'm fairly certain she knows not to get into protracted rallies with Flavia. Well, that and not to get into protracted conversations with Stubbsy when you're trying to scout a match. Man, that girl can talk.
