Not that Kim's voodoo doll had much to do with the outcome of this match. Masha had three match points before the super weird rain delay and couldn't convert any of them, missing two returns and going for a winner on a long rally that went wide. Then the skies opened up, the players were off court for over an hour, which, as Kim said after the match, she used to go back to the hotel room to get her serve, Kim held serve and Masha somehow hurt her foot. She says she felt it in the tiebreak.
Don't worry, Pam. She'll be ok.
The last set went quickly, as Shazz couldn't serve for shit, move for shit, or hit for shit. Credit to her for sticking it out and not retiring. A rough way to end yet another fine week for her. And in case there was any doubt, Masha's withdrawn from Montreal.
As for Kim a solid start to her USO defense, though let's face it, she was a wee bit lucky through the week with the foot injuries and whatnot. But that shouldn't take away from what she did here. Her match against an in-form Flavia was probably her best of the week and it was an impressive display. I don't think she's serving particularly well but we'll see if she's shaken off the rust once she crosses the Canadian border.
