Three weeks ago, the thought of Caro being the top seed at the Open was more a punchline than a headline. But after her back-to-back wins in Montreal and New Haven, she sure has gone a long way in beefing up that resume of hers, no? She'll obviously face her biggest test in NYC and there are some questions about her fitness (she was struggling with lower back problems throughout New Haven) and whether or not she has enough left in the tank. But we know she competes well and she'll have more reason to bust her ass: She's clinched the USO Series.
But I like what I see from the kid. She's definitely trying to be more aggressive and find ways to terminate points. She made the final last year. There's no real reason to bet against her. Then again, I wouldn't bet on her either.
And maybe that's Caro in a nutshell.
Oh, and to round out the New Haven news, Staks won the men's final over Istomin in three sets.
