Here's what Ana said two years ago in Montreal:
"In two years I'm gonna come back here and try to be eager to win again. Hopefully, you know, I'll still have the good support."
Montreal doesn't care about your pandering, Ana. They're not giving you a wildcard. You're going to have to play qualies to get in. To a tournament that you won. Four years ago.
Look, I totally understand the tournament's decision. They don't have a problem selling tickets and therefore don't need her name or face for marketing. That's fine. But how about a little respect for a former champion who has done nothing but say nice things about your tournament and help you, in the past, market the shit out of it? We're not talking about some aging, on her way out, former champion from 10 years ago. We're talking about a 23 year old kid in a slump.
Be nice to your former champs. Seems like a pretty easy rule.
