Sam! Holy Crap!
It's hard not to expect a letdown from Sam. I mean, she deserves one after the week she's had. But it sure as hell didn't come today. Sam attacked JJ's serve, crushed her forehand on anything short, and actually hit some solid two-handed backhands. Oh, and then there was that pesky kick serve that doesn't show any signs of letting up.
JJ had no answers for Sam's power. She was late on almost everything, couldn't return effectively, and was constantly under pressure on her, yes, "puff ball serve." There's no shame in losing to Sam Stosur this week. But once again JJ runs up against a streaking power clay-courter in the RG Semis and doesn't have the answers. At least last time she had her looks. I'm not which feels worse, though.
Justine, former #1, at Roland Garros, Serena, world #1, at a Slam, and Jelena, former year end #1 (I threw that "year-end" in for you, JJ) back-to-back-to-back. Well done, you. A no-nonsense, no drama, no fist pumping, no ajdeing/allezing on unforced errors, no magazine gracing, no shit-talking, "boring" throwback. No wonder she feels like a breath of fresh air.
Word is that her family is frantically trying to find flights that will get them to Paris in time for the final. There's gotta be some rich Aussie tennis fan down there that can lend them their private jet for the weekend. I really want to see The Family Stone. Her brothers have gotta be cute, right? And her dad has been giving interviews in Australia and he sounds adorable and totally bursting with pride. I'm a Daddy's Girl, so shit like that makes me melty.
In the meantime, clear the chamber, reload, and ignore the media insanity that I'm sure will surround you. You got one more to go.
