Some old Asian lady d. Safina, 36 64 75.
Where to begin, really? Dinara held a 42 lead in the second set and lost it. She also held a 4-1 double break lead in the third set and lost it. Kimiko hit 63 UFEs and started cramping badly in the third set and had to call the trainer. Oh, and Kimiko hasn't played at RG since 1996.
And still, Dinara lost. It was an ugly 2 hour and 34 minute match. Ugly because all you could do was squirm watching Dinara deal (or fail to deal) with everything that was going on around her and inside her.
Afterwards, Dinara pretty much refused to talk about the Split Heard Round The World. All in all, sad stuff. She'll probably drop out of the top 20 after RG.
But hey, how about some love for the ageless Kimiko! She hung in there, she fought as best she could, and she came out with a win at 39 years old. And she looks amazing. Seriously. She looks younger than 99% of the WTA. Give her some love!
