Introducing Balls of Steel, the Forty Deuce version of "Person of the Day", "Match Ball", whatever.
I mean, come on. It had to be. Because really, let's think about this. Sure, Dinara totally collapsed and practically gifted the match to her. But let's actually back this up. Think about what Kimiko had to do to even be in the position to win this match. She was a direct entry into the main draw at Roland Garros. You know who wasn't? Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Kaia Kanepi, Simona Halep, Monica Niculscu, just to name a few. So just to get this first round match against Dinara, Kimiko has had to play well, and she has. At 39 years old! After a 12 year retirement! On her worst surface!
And then there's this from Stephanie Myles:
Adorbz!
Also, she gives good presser. Or, at least, adorable presser.
So yeah, good on you, Kimiko-Tan. You've earned it. [bows]
Honorable Mention:
This dude. His name is Grega Zemlja from Slovenia. He is ranked #141. He has played 1 ATP Tour match all year. He beat Pico in straight sets and now the ESPN commentators will have to figure out how to pronounce his name. So...that's quite something.
And for everyone who voted for Mina, he was in the running for Honorable Mention. Until he took that crap MTO down two sets and a break. Not cool, kid. Hope you learn to know better.
