And so begins my attempt to recap the year that was in 2009.
- 2009 started with this. So...we should've known is all I'm sayin'.
- There was Hopman Cup. And it was awesome. For all the wrong reasons.
- Nole kicked off his year with some Head.
- JJ's year started out as a complete and utter clusterfuck. And everyone was hating on her. Except Ana.
- Rafa and Mark were adorable in Dubai.
- 11 days in and I abandoned my New Year's Resolutions. Actually, 6. No, 5.
- Nads debuted her bubbly personality.
- Baby E hit the courts and well...she's still pretty, I guess. They love her down there.
- Muzz worked out and showed off his new muzzles.
- I successfully jinxed Fed. But I was still wrong. And once again I proved to the world that I have no business being a tennis blogger.
- The boys got all catty.
- Nalby lost to Rendy Lu. RENDY LU.
- Tommy reminded us how much he hates clothes.
- Hey, remember when Olivia almost beat Serena? Yeah, me neither. Remember when Serena almost lost to like...EVERYBODY? Yeah, me neither.
- JJ talked big and fell hard. In hilarious fashion.
- Well hello Kleybs. Nice to meet you.
- The Cone lost a match that would define her season.
- And and Fer broke up and then the FeVer started heating up. And he got a new girlfriend.
- Marat said goodbye to Australia.
- Shit got stoopid.
- Dani and Ai FUCKING RULED.
- Nole and Vika got woozy.
- Snot Rocket returned and turned the AO into one of those feel-good Olympic stories that make you cry. Or just me.
- Dina gave us awesome quotage and posed for Banana Republic. And Zeljko gave her a secret book that, as we all know, did not have the answers.
- Sveta got roofied.
- Serena was...Serena.
- Gilles foreshadowed his year but gained some fans.
- Fed tee'd up a repeated refrain as he showed he still owned Andy.
- Rafa and Fer gave us, what I still think is, the match of the year.
- Fed and Rafa played a crazy final which lead to a match call thread full of 435 comments.
- Fed cried.
- Rafa redefined "Hard Courts"
- The boys were really happy to see each other again.
And that was January. JJ floundered, Rafa and Fer came out winners, lots of questions swirled around Fed, Muzz, and Nole, Serena recaptured #1, and the Russians were...Russians.
On to February...
