First there was this...
Then there was this...
Then Masha rolled her eyes...
And then they posed for a reenactment of a Bollttieri Yearbook picture that was surely taken in 1999.
JJ retired at 2-5 in the first set due to an arm injury, giving Maria her first title of the year:
Sharapova was up 5-2 at Ariake Colosseum when the seventh-seeded Serb took a timeout to have her right arm examined by the trainer. Jankovic returned to the court and lost the first two points of the eighth game before retiring.
"It's disappointing," said Sharapova, who had arthroscopic surgery to repair a rotator cuff in her right shoulder nearly a year ago. "It's toward the end of the year and there are a lot of injuries so I wish Jelena a speedy recovery."
Here's the thing...don't you just at least tough it out to let Maria win the first set, then retire? Oh, and when JJ retired she initially made no effort to shake Maria's hand. Which...was so JJ. Hell, even Serena made her way across the net when she got DQ'd to shake Kim's hand. It's moments like this that remind me why I just can't get both butt cheeks on the JJ bandwagon.
Here's the video:
You can just see Masha thinking "seriously?"
