This was the one match today that I was actually felt safe predicting. How the hell did Kleybs pull this off? Well, one thing that I learned watching her pick Ana apart in Melbourne is that she is (a) surprisingly mobile and (b) surprisingly fit.
She outlasted JJ in a 3+ hour brawl wherein JJ fought and scrapped to get the first set after being down 5-1 in the tiebreak. Apparently there were idiot linesmen who were getting calls wrong left and right, but all credit to Kleybs for sticking with JJ and busting the win, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2. Kleybs is one of those players, just like Lucie, who has the weapons to blast you off the court. Sounds like that's what happened here.
This is a tough loss for JJ, who looked to be gaining a head of steam into the USO. It's losses like these that make other players believe that you're always beatable. Bummer. I really was looking forward to a Masha/JJ semi and a JJ/Serena final.
