Venus ditched that ugly tie-dye number and rocked a Kill Bill yellow and black number on her way to a solid thrashing of The Pova, 62 62. The match was actually more competitive than the scoreline would indicate, as Maria had her chances early on Venus' serve.
But Masha looked rusty with her footwork and gameplan, her serve was pathetic, and her forehand completely failed her. But she fought, as she always does, and still made Venus work for the win. The footwork, gameplan, and forehand will come with more matchplay. But the bigger concern is that serve. If she can't hold her serve against strong returners (i.e., the top 5) she's got no chance of regaining the Grand Slam winning form that we've become used to. And that'd be a damn shame.
So Venus moves on and will play Lena D. in the semis tomorrow.
