Hmmm,
what was that I'd said about not being all Dina, all the time? Oh well,
promises are just air, people. Here's an interview with Marat and Dinara
(see-- Safin Sibling Double Time, you don't want to miss that, do you?) done at
what looks to be the Adidas party at RG. Conducted by none other than the
extremely MIA Tatiana Golovin! (A little sumpin' for everyone. Or,
at least a little sumpin' for Tati fans.) Actually, C Note dug this one
up, but as Forty Deuce's resident DinaKAD + Francophone (skill set of the
stars), I got to do the translation (after the cut).
Tati: “Now we’re going to meet last year’s Roland Garros finalist, Dinara Safina, and her brother—whom everybody knows—Marat Safin. Hello!”
Marat & Dinara: “Hi.”
Tati: “So, Dinara is now the #1 player in the world. What do you think about that? Are you proud of her?
Marat: “Of course I’m proud of her.And now, everyone calls me ‘the brother of’.”
Tati: “Dinara, your brother’s going to end his career soon,
what are your thoughts about that?”
Dinara: “Yes, it’s very sad.Next year I’ll have to travel all by myself without him.But I hope that he’ll still follow me.”
Marat: “Yes, but only on TV!”
Tati: “Marat, you won at Bercy several times. And Dinara, you were a finalist here too last
year.You’re very successful in Paris,
aren’t you?”
Dinara: “Yes, it’s true, I like this city a lot.I really enjoy playing here in Paris and I
really hope to win this year.”
Tati: “Yeah… and you, Marat?”
Marat: “I love it here, too.I have a lot of great memories, a lot of bad ones too, but I’m always
happy to come back and I have a lot of good friends here.”
Tati: “Marat, you’ve already won Grand Slams. What advice would you give your sister to
help her win this year?”
Marat: “She has to win, to shut up the critics. And she has to enjoy and savour this moment, because
when you win a Grand Slam and you’re #1, that’s the best moment. And this moment passes by very fast. That’s why you have to really savour it,
because afterwards you only have the memories. But those memories are very precious.”
Tati: “Marat, you know that when you stop playing tennis,
girls will be crying in all four corners of the world.”
Marat: “I don’t know if they’re really going to be crying.”
Tati: “Yes, yes, their hearts will be broken.Aren’t you ashamed to leave them like that?”
Marat: “Well, you know, I’ve played enough. It’s time to turn the page and do some more
serious things.”
Tati: “Dinara, you’re staying in the same hotel as last
year.Is it important for you to keep
the same routine?”
Dinara: “Yes, of course, why change things that work?”
Tati: “Thank you very much, and good luck to both of you!”
Highlights:
1) Tati's shamelessness.
2) Dinara smirking and giggling at girls crying all over the world.
3) How Marat's advice has really absolutely nothing to do with how to win a Slam. She just has to do it. Okay, then.
