Argh. Dina and Sveta in the same quarter? Why, tennis gods, why? And on top of that, Dina has to play Nails in her first match? Even the draw gods hate Dina.
On the other half of the draw, Venus and Serena are in the same quarter. I wouldn't mind seeing a quarterfinal between those two. I'm not sure if I've ever seen them play each other on clay. Of course, they have to get there first and Serena's got a tough second round test against Tranny.
Meanwhile, since the draw was released on Friday, seeds have already begun to fall. Agi, Flavs, Alize, and AMG crashed out today, and Mono lost yesterday. So bring on the Madrid crazy!
Nole's in Rafa's half and Muzz is in Fed's half. I'm actually excited for this tourney because I genuinely think anything one of those four can win. Rafa's already complaining about being tired and we know he doesn't really want to be in Madrid in the first place. But his quarter is pretty cake to the quarters, where he'll likely face Fer. Nole's coming of a pretty exhausting clay season as well which was capped off with a win in Belgrade today. I feel like those two are prime for a slight letdown at some point and it wouldn't shock me if it came this week.
As for Muzz and Fed they're the ones with something to prove this week. It'll be interesting to see if Muzz can rebound from his early loss in Rome and show the world that his quality play in Monte Carlo wasn't a fluke. His results in Madrid will bet he basis for any guess at his chances at RG. As for Fed he has improved as the clay season has progressed, making the semis of Rome. Can he push through to the final in Rome and take it? If he does that'll really help his confidence and reinstate him as a fave behind Rafa at RG.
