So Tennis Channel has taken a stand and won't be airing the Dubai tournament in protest over Visa-Gate.
Ok, first, kudos to them. Though, I wish they had the cojones to, I don't know, actually show tennis on their station, but it is what it is. I guess I'll just fall asleep with the Shamwow guy screaming into my ear about the Slap Chop.
Second, jigga what? The same channel that refused to fire Gimelstob and barely gave him a pat on the butt for the horribly sexist and misogynistic things he spewed over American airwaves about WTA players?
Third, and I admit this is coming from my own ignorance, how exactly does this affect the tourney? In other words, how does TTC not airing the tourney this year punish them for their decision? I would presume that the sponsorship deals are already locked in. I can't think that the sponsors are going to go the tourney and say "So your tournament isn't being shown in the U.S. and we want our money back." I'm just wondering how exactly this punishes them other than setting a precedent for next year.
I mean, that's cool and everything TTC. But whatever.
