For all the talk today about this being about the Serbs and the Sisters, one thing has been largely ignored: The Doha Weather. Yes, this is an outdoor tournament, which is kind of bullshit because the players have been fine tuning their games for indoor surfaces over the past month and a half. But whatever.
The current forecast shows a chance of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, but my more immediate concern is the wind. If anyone recalls watching the Doha tournament in February, you'll recall the REDONKEYKONG wind that was wreaking havoc on everyone. Wind is the ultimate equalizer. Power players can't play with as much precision, and and power that counterpunchers have gets mitigated, making their shots sit up for the big hitters to crush.
We'll see who can handle it. In my opinion the wind will affect Dinara the most. She has a huge backswing which doesn't allow for a lot of adjustments midswing, and she's not a great mover. It could affect Ana a lot too, but I'm sure Sven will tell her to crash the net to end the points early.
