First, A-Rod had to withdraw from his match with Fed due to a ankle sprain that he sustained during practice.
Then, Radek, the next alternate, who didn't have any of his gear, had to borrow a racquet from Nole, socks from Muzzah (hope those were clean), and run out to buy contacts. Apparently he had his racquet bag shipped over but they hadn't cleared customs at the time he got the call to play.
Then Fed beat Radek in straight sets, 76(4) 64, in a tightly contested match. Had Radek won he would have had a chance to qualify for the semis and Fed would have probably been done. I have to say, you gotta give Radek some props given the circumstances. That couldn't have been easy.
After the match, Fed revealed that he had a stomach virus and had the match been scheduled for yesterday he would have had to withdraw. But he gutted it out (heh), and his chances of qualifying are still alive. That being said, he's going to need to beat an in form Andy Murray, who has already stated he ain't taking it easy on the World Not #1.
