Quite the tournament for Disco Tommy, who pushed a gassed and injured Nole to five sets today before losing 63. He beat Safin and Tsonga to here and continued his top form play in the first set, taking it 64. But Nole, leading 3-0 in the second, injured his hip on a slide and called for the trainer. He would later call for the trainer again for stomach problems between the fourth and fifth set. On top of all that he rolled his ankle pretty badly in the fourth. So yeah, kid had a rough day.
Tommy lost his concentration for a couple sets after that, but he regained his composure and got a second wind in the fourth, taking it 64. But Nole proved too much and I think he tapped into his experience at last year's Open, where he had to play two t
ough back to back long matches against Stepanek and Monaco. The kid looks tired though, a la Dinara Safina. Not sure how much he has left.
But nevertheless, he gutted it out and booked himself a spot in the quarterfinal where he will presumably play A-Rod, who plays his fourth round match tonight against Gonzo. Here's hoping Nole can recuperate by Thursday night.
