Oh Ernie. You played a remarkable 1 and 5/6 sets. The net work was ridiculous, the droppers were well- timed and well-executed, and you were serving well. And then the clock struck midnight and you turned into an unforced error producing pumpkin. But you know what? It was entertaining as heck and it woke up an otherwise quiet Ashe stadium. All credit to Andy. I'm not a huge Andy fan but he impressed me with his fight and his guile tonight. Good on him.
Oh, Lindsay. Queen of the Worst Body Language in the History of the Game. Think about it. Does it EVER look like she wants to be out there playing? Well Lindsay's dream of making it into the second week of the Open were dashed today by Mono Bartoli in straight sets. I can't really stand watching Bartoli play so I haven't watched the match yet. But from what I saw Lindsay just couldn't find her rhythm and her timing. And for a girl who hits the ball so flat, if your timing is off it just ain't going to happen.
WHY, MARAT, WHY? Why would you cut your hair? Did you sell it to pay for your $2000 fine for your behavior on Wednesday? Well I think you've learned your lesson. Marat lost to Disco Tommy today, getting bageled in the last set. But let's be honest. When Disco Tommy plays Marat in the hot NY sun there is always one guaranteed winner: The ladies.
Other notable results for the guys: Fed, Nole, Gonzo, Tsonga, Kolya, Radek, and Tabasco all through without much incident (well, Tabasco went 5).
And the ladies? JJ survived her match with Zheng Jie winning in straight sets, but failing to convince anyone that she is in any form to win this tournament. It was an error strewn match that was drama filled. the last game of the match went to 11 deuces, with Zheng having numerous chances to break back to force the tiebreak.
Other notable results for the ladies: Lena D., Peppermint Patty, and Na Li all through.
