Two fan favorites have announced their withdrawal from this year's US Open due to injury. Lleyton Hewitt is out due to hip surgery that took place last week. Apparently you can't recover from hip surgery in two weeks to compete in one of the most grueling sporting events in the dead of summer in New York, no matter how many "Come ons" and lawnmowers you throw in there. Go figure!
Perennial tease Tati Golovin is also out. I have an idea, Tati. How about you pull out of all your tournaments now and just tell us which ones you ARE going to compete in. It's ridiculous.
So any guesses as to the next withdrawal announcements? Of course the biggest name on the bubble is Baby Elephant and the Curious Case of the Bum Thumb. Lindsay is another possibility, though she is playing doubles this week in New Haven. As for the men, I can't think of anyone off the top of my head that is seriously injured.
