Well this is getting boring. And by that I mean EXCITING!!! All the journalists should send the tennis players a $5 Starbucks card to thank them for keeping all the compelling storylines going.
All the top seeds came through yesterday without too much struggle, particularly on the men's side. The Wimbly rematch everyone wants is still on track as Roger avenged is 2004 Athens loss to Big Bird Berdych, Igor "The Zabka" Andreev failed to sweep Rafa's leg and was downed in fairly easy fasion, and Nole played well to dispatch of the Youzh. The only "upset" came from La Monf, who downed David Headbandian 4 and 4. I was sad that Blake downed Simon though. Simon is infuriating to watch but he's also really cute.
As for the Ladies, you have to tip your cap to the veterans, all of whom put their upstart opponents in their place. Venus summarily dismissed Vika Azarenka and though Serena dropped the first set to Feivel Cornet (seriously, she looks like Feivel Mouskevitz) she came back to win 3 and 4 after destroying yet another Wilson [K]Blade Tour. The always injured, always complaining world #1 also avenged her Montreal loss to Mighty Mouse Cibulkova, who had trouble dealing with the conditions and faded after the first set.
And it was a good day for the Russians. Lena D put an end to Ski Boots' solid Olympic run, and Bepa took care of business, beating Tranny Schiavone. And, as if I needed any more proof that my blog is a hit among the tour, Ana's Avenger came down for the smoggy polluted sky to deliver a message to Zheng Jie: "Don't fuck with Baby Panda." It's really too bad that Zheng was put in that tough quarter. I would have liked to see her get through to the semis.
