    Serena withdraws from LA.

    Duh.

    When asked for comment, Jelena Jankovic reacted thusly:

    Seriously, did JJ spend her off-time paying off all her competitors?  Ana decides not to defend LA, Maria doesn't bother playing a tournament that's taking place right down the street from her house, and Venus, Serena, and Kuzzie all withdraw.  An odd turn of events, don't you think?

    So #1 is there for the taking for the #2 Serb.  Can she sack up and take it?  We'll know soon.
