The sports equivalent of MTV's Video Music Awards were handed out last night and two things are clear: Maria is #1 in America and no one who voted actually watches tennis.
- Maria, Justine, and Ana were nominated for Female Tennis Player of the Year. Anyone who actually watches tennis knows that if this were based on 2007, Justine takes it hands down. If it were based on just 2008 results, then Ana wins hands down. But American boys love that Masha, so she won and didn't bother showing up to pick up her award.
- In the "Huh?" award, Rafa won Best International Male Athlete, but Fed won Male Tennis Player of the Year over Rafa. Last time I checked, Switzerland wasn't in the U.S. So I say again, huh? I'm no Aristotle, but doesn't one necessarily encompass the other?
At the end of the day I don't have a problem with it. After all, it's a made up award. But at least make an attempt to make it legitimate.
